A gated community exists online and only the beautiful may apply.
Beautifulpeople.com is a social networking site that provides a safe haven for the ridiculously good-looking people who are tired of associating with the masses on facebook- that is if they let you in.
The site made headlines recently when the “shrek virus” corrupted the rating system and allowed 30,000 “unattractive” applicants into the beautiful club. Site owners went into damage control and quickly corrected this mistake (what a relief).
The down to earth creators of this site also received media attention when they discovered that many existing members had “let themselves go” and were threatening the integrity of the site. These people swiftly had their membership revoked.
To investigate this bizarrely superficial online trend, I donned my hot girl disguise to try and convince the gatekeepers that I was one of their kind…
Fake tan, fake lashes, boobs up, tummy in, sexy pout, strike a pose- with a few clicks my selfie was uploaded to the site and ready to undergo the 48hr rating process.
After 2 days of rating, the faceless members of the site had decided that I was “hot” enough to join their world.
Instantly my inbox was filled with romantic proposals from a fellow “beautiful person”, with these escalating into graphic sexual advances. Disturbed by this one sided interaction I decided to test out the rating process…
“You’re hot, you’re not…neither are you, definitely not!” I was instantly hooked and found myself logging in daily to take my frustration out on the innocent aspiring members… Beautifulpeople.com had unleashed my ugly side.
